Abridged
During my residency at The Annex-South African National Gallery, I conducted extensive research in close contact with palaeontologists and archaeologists currently digging in the area of the Witswatersrand, in South Africa.
This is an area of historical importance because of diamond and gold mining in South Africa. I worked in The Cradle of Humankind: a vast archaeological area where most of the oldest hominid fossils have been found, and where mining facilitated the discovery of many of those archaeological sites over the last two centuries.
