When he was twelve, my friend R. bought a little sculpture with the intention of giving a surprise to his mother for her birthday. This was a very special occasion for him because, for the first time, he, who felt like a big boy, was planning to give his mother a real present, a present for which he had visited the downtown shops on-his-own, had personally chosen an object to his taste, and had spent with pride the little treasure of his savings.

Heirloom tells the story of how this little figurine became even more important.
